When trauma occurs, the "body keeps the score".

The trauma may be deep and become part of ourselves only we may not be aware of this.

When a "trigger" occurs, our body shifts into a stress mode and we react the way we do, this may be a overreaction given the actual situation or we may be "too sensitive" or you may be told you "stress yourself out".

This may also make you vulnerable to people who can use your triggers to manipulate or "gas light" you.

Become emotional aware can help you to heal.

Understand why you were triggered, understand yourself and your past and tlet go of the trauma in order to heal.

This is not easy BUT becoming aware is the first step.

"being safe"

The vagus nerve (part of the autonomic nervous system, specifically the parasympathetic nervous system) can play an important role in this. It can be helpful in the healing process.
